bittersweet fairwell....

I find myself somewhat shocked at my own reaction regarding winter being done... Last weekend was the last official one at our local ski resort. Although we really didn't ski at all this year (I went twice and Bruce made it up once) it was still somehow sad to see the lifts shutting down on closing day. (Of course, the locals are still going to skin up the mountain for weeks to come - but for now we don't have the gear or the stamina to be a part of that bunch!)

Here are a few shots from the second to last day - including the pond skimming contest, which drew pretty much everyone on the mountain to watch it. Great fun! The following day Bruce and I came back up on our motorcycles. It was a little chilly, but well worth it!!

I had one of my favorite runs all to myself each time I went down it. I could have done it over and over and over and.... you get the picture. It was sunny and gorgeous - not so common on this mountain that is known for the constant fog that tends to envelop it to the point where skiers can develop vertigo.

Glacier Park and the Canadian Rockies in the background....

Pond Skimming... The idea was to make it over to the other side of the 85 feet long pond filled with nearly freezing water. The participants made it look easy. The starting point kept getting moved lower and lower until no-one could make it a across and the winner got $1000. The rest of us got some good laughs, cheap beer and sun!

The next time we make it up this mountain it will be on our mountain bikes for race league sometime starting in July! We really do live smack-dap in the middle of the largest, most beautiful playground I've ever seen!
